The false self ?

      
Self who are you really?


Self  =
  a person's  or thing's own individuality or essence, person or thing as an object or reflexive action.


Some writers in previous generations have made a distinction between the false self and the real self.

The false self is usually made up of a number of  elements.

  First, self-centredness or selfishness, often cunningly disguised.

 Second,  a single- minded pursuit of wealth or whatever riches can buy.

 Third, a striving for status and success: i.e.  an Ego trip.

 Fourth, a quest for happiness and pleasure, often with sexual connections.

In brief the false self is completely taken up with the ' earthy and creaturely'.

While the real self is rather different.

In this section we have  William Ralph Inge (1860-1954) {  who was a Church of England clergyman, scholar, social critic, authority on Plotinus and Christianity.} enables us to understand the nature of the ' real self '- 
 " We are potentially all things; our personality is what we are able to realize of the infinite wealth which our divine -  human nature contains hidden in it's depths. "
The real self discovers the " infinite wealth " of our " divine - human nature." 
This is integrated with the " earthly - creaturely " and leads to a wholeness' at ease with oneself and with other people.  There is now no longer any need for pretense or such cut-throat competition.
