It Is Only Temporary

It Is Only Temporary

How could the Apostle Paul call his afflictions "light"? It certainly wasn't because he didn't have any problems. Some of his "light" afflictions included: being beaten with rods, whipped multiple times, stoned and left for dead, imprisoned, and being shipwrecked--just to name a few.
It is safe to say that Paul suffered more than anyone reading this. Yet, he considered his afflictions to be only "light." How can we take the heavy problems we encounter and turn them into just light afflictions just as Paul did?
  1. Put things into perspective--Paul knew all the things suffered in this life were only a brief moment in comparison to eternity. Paul put everything in perspective!

  2. Know that everything will work out for your good--He knew that all the things he was suffering would work out to his eternal benefit, just as Jesus endured the cross by focusing on "the joy that was set before him" (Hebrews 12:2).

  3. Change your focus--Paul didn't crumble under his heavy loads, he shifted his attention on the permanent things of the spiritual realm instead of the temporary things of this physical world!
Whatever affliction you are enduring now, know this: It is only temporary! Even if you find yourself in a situation that may last a lifetime, that's only temporary too. We will live much longer in the blessings of heaven than we ever live in the hardships of earth!
