Status of the World?

Are things getting worse? 

Is the darkness ever darker? Is evil taking over or is the world getting better with a great harvest of souls taking place?

Yes.

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (John 3:19)

It only takes a quick glance at history and the news to understand that evil is with us. The ‘mystery of iniquity’ is still at work in the world. In the last century alone, more than 200 million people lost their lives due to war and politically motivated extermination. Christian martyrs in the 20th century have been calculated at 45 million! In this 21st century we continue to see horrible wars and genocide coupled with indiscriminate terrorism that seems to be on the rise. 

Add to this the death toll from natural disasters and abortion, and one could easily conclude that the planet is suffering—and the suffering is getting worse, not better. Only the willfully naïve would deny this.

Is there any good news?

For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. (Isa. 60:2)

As the darkness covers the earth, the light of the gospel continues to spread around the world.

Though we are often informed of the growth of Islam, we seldom hear the media report the rapid growth of Christianity.

God has poured out His Spirit upon all flesh (Acts 2:17) and this gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all the world (Mt. 24:14).  

The gates of hell will not prevail against the church! (Mt. 16:18)

But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is like darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble. (Prov. 4:18-19)

In the midst of the evil of the world there is a people who is strong and will do exploits. We are a light that the darkness cannot overcome. 

The gospel is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe.
