toxins to blame

Are toxins to blame for your mystery illness?

Even if you probably don't feel like you're made of metal... on the inside, you could practically be the Tin Man.

My patients are always floored at how much metal they have floating around, including dangerous levels of toxic metals such as mercury, aluminum, and cadmium.

Now, the latest research reveals a quick and easy way to chase one of type of metal out of your body -- before it ever has a chance to take hold and do damage.

And all you need to do is eat more pickled and fermented foods!

Lactobacillus plantarum -- a type of bacteria found in sauerkraut, kimchi, fermented cheeses, and even some yogurts -- can bind to the metal cadmium in your gut and then escort it right out through your intestines.

In a series of experiments, L. plantarum literally pushed cadmium out of the bodies of mice through their feces. And the more the bacteria colony grew in their guts, the more this toxic metal got pushed out.

And that's not all.

L. plantarum also counteracted the effects of cadmium in those mice -- including inflammation and damage to the barrier of the gut.

Tests on human intestinal cells have revealed similar results.

This study was carried out in China, where cadmium poisoning is a big problem due to exposure from water and rice.

But it's been found in rice here too, as well as in other vegetables. Any plant with the manganese transporter that allows it to suck up minerals from the soil can also pull in cadmium -- and that includes leafy greens as well as some grains (although you should minimize grains anyway).

Fortunately, organic fruits and vegetables contain about half the cadmium of conventional produce... but tests earlier this year even found low levels of cadmium in CHOCOLATE!

Along with damaging the gut, cadmium exposure can increase your risk of chronic disease. A study I shared with you last year found it can even damage your DNA, potentially taking years off your life.

So, if you've been suffering from lingering chronic ailments that your own doc has been unable to pinpoint, get tested for metals exposure.

If you've been exposed to cadmium, you can chase it out -- and improve your gut and overall health -- by boosting your intake of L. plantarum with a probiotic supplement along with the food sources I mentioned earlier. I even take it myself.

But there's likely more than one toxic metal in your body -- and so a holistic doctor can help you with a natural detox program, including herbal remedies that can pull them out. In some cases, you may even need chelation therapy.

If you're in Southern California, I can run some tests and work with you on a detox program to help cleanse your body of metals... and anything else that shouldn't be there.
