Wonderful news, fellow Canadians!
Premier Kathleen Wynne’s Liberal government in Ontario has discovered the existence of a Carbon Fairy, who is going to pay all the costs of carbon pricing for us, forever!
I urge all Canadians to contact Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and their premiers and territorial leaders immediately, to learn how you can get a Carbon Fairy to pay for your carbon pricing, too!
How do I know Ontario has a Carbon Fairy?
Because Ontario just announced the “historic” results of the province’s first sale of carbon permits to Ontario businesses on March 22, under Wynne’s cap and trade scheme, and apparently we don’t have to pay for it! Hallelujah!
Yep. Ontario said all the current permits were sold, bringing $472 million into Liberal government coffers and an expected $1.9 billion annually in ongoing quarterly auctions every year.
The great news is the Carbon Fairy is apparently going to pick up that charge for all of us, as opposed to these businesses simply passing along their increased costs to us in the form of higher retail prices for virtually all goods and services, since virtually all consume fossil fuel energy, which creates greenhouse gases when burned.
After all, if THAT was happening, then surely Wynne — the Ontario Liberals being all about openness and transparency — would have made it clear that cap and trade is just a carbon tax by another name.
Actually, it’s worse, because while a carbon tax is visible, there’s no way to know what cap and trade is costing us per product, since it hides the increases in retail price hikes, which are determined by a variety of factors.
But not if you have a Carbon Fairy like Ontario does!
Actually, Wynne and the Liberals have been stellar at downplaying the increased costs of cap and trade to the public, for example when they refused to break out its cost as a separate line item on Ontarians’ home heating bills, since natural gas (along with coal and oil) is a fossil fuel.
They explained to us that something called the all-powerful, wise and mighty Ontario Energy Board — even more powerful than the government which created it, apparently — had decreed that cap and trade costs will not be broken out as a separate item on our energy bills, and that they were really, really, really sorry but there was nothing they could do about it.
Fortunately, Premier Wynne, showing the decisive leadership that has her approval rating four or five points above the number of people in Ontario who believe Elvis is alive, succeeded in getting a separate line item on our electricity bills that tells us every month, down to the penny, the exact amount of the 8% provincial rebate we’re getting on them.
The one she financed by borrowing money from Ontario taxpayers to give a discount to Ontario ratepayers, undeterred by the fact they’re the same people, meaning she’s literally borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, both of whom will be stuck paying even higher electricity costs down the road.
But who really cares, given Wynne’s sheer genius in discovering the existence of the Carbon Fairy?
I can’t wait to see how much the Carbon Fairy is going to save us at the next government auction on June 6! Can you?
