Our talents are based upon who we are in both person and actions! Each of us has to live via some standard in our life! The best way is to use Moral Laws. But exactly what constitutes morality in this earthly existence?
It has to be based upon laws from an impeccable Authority! One that only has the highest principles.
In essence this “law” refers to all the righteous demands of " The Great I AM " or The God that reveals His holy commandments for His people, including moral, religious, and civil obligations.
Because unless that Authority is the final Absolute Law and above reproach - you would following a less than perfect God What you seek or focus your time and attention upon will dominate you. Conversely, whatever you do not focus on cannot dominate you. Therefore seek to follow the Highest Authority!
Many Christian thinkers have discerned three legitimate ongoing uses of the law for God’s people today. Thoughtful reflection reveals the following:
- *** The mirror function. On one hand, the moral laws of the Bible (including those in the New Testament) reveal God’s perfect holiness. On the other hand, by these same laws comes the knowledge of sin and conviction of the need for the gospel and grace. Paul especially taught this in Romans 7:7-12.
- The Law and Sin
7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”8 But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead.9 Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.10 I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death.11 For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death.12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.
- Once one learns from a mirror that one’s face is unclean (by the law) then the proper cleansing remedy can be applied (by the gospel).
- *** The civil function. The moral laws of God applied by governments restrain evil to a degree. Even though applying such law cannot change hearts, threats of punishment may secure order in society and protect the innocent from the guilty, as in Romans 13:3-4. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority?
- Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.
- (The church as an institution may only warn or excommunicate violators of civil commands.)
- *** The guide function. For those whom God has regenerated, the law is a “yardstick” showing growth in good works and Christ-likeness. Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (Jn 14:15). Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
- Galatians 6:2 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
- James 1:25 “But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
- reflect this truth, and Psalm 119 is a ringing anthem about the greatness of God’s law: “How happy are those whose way is blameless, who live according to the law of the Lord”
- (Ps 119:1 ). 119 Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.
REFLECTION: Does this or any law save people?
First you must come to realize that the law could not save anyone?
Why?
Because Laws refer to standards or items of comparison on human actives. We must have an equalizer or advocate so to speak for us or a rectifier in order to bring those who have trespassed the law(s) back into a state of moral satisfaction with the morals of God's Laws. This is found in the Holy Scriptures of the Bible.
How intentionally do you use the moral teachings of the Bible as a guide to measure your growth in holiness?
This is the key to finding the proper use of your talents!
