The state of American higher education today is dismaying, to say the least.
Under both President Obama and President
Bush before him, the federal Department of Education has expanded its
heavy-handed influence over American colleges and universities.
Meanwhile, as you’ve read in the newspapers, America’s campuses have
become hotbeds of political correctness, and college administrators
customarily surrender to the demands of pampered students for “safe
spaces,” speech codes, and dumbed-down courses.
Hillsdale College, of course, is a bright exception to the rule.
Here at Hillsdale we have a large and
rigorous core curriculum required of all students, including courses in
Western and American heritage and in the U.S. Constitution. We have an
honor code that requires the kind of moral behavior necessary for
self-government. And we have our independence, which allows us the freedom to educate in the same way we’ve done since the College was founded.
We are able to hold to our ways and stay
true to our mission because, as you know, we remain uniquely independent
by refusing even one penny of federal or state taxpayer support – even
indirectly in the form of student grants or loans.
In turn, that makes us reliant on the support of generous friends like you.
{Hillsdale takes no Fed Gov't money and provide students the policy of self assurance and dependability!}
We’re honored and grateful for your partnership.
Warm regards,
Larry P. Arnn
President, Hillsdale College
