The summer months have come to an end, and the kids are back at school.
Fall is finally here!
…For some, anyway.
We’d like to hope that the weather would change when the calendar reads “First Day of Fall.”
But unfortunately, the heat remains in the warmer climates around the country – not to mention the humidity!
According to an article recently written by spinal surgeon, Michael A. Glieber, “High humidity levels can also thicken the blood, increasing pressure in the blood vessels.”
Not just that, Glieber explains, heat, steam, and humidity cause a number of bodily reactions that can increase joint discomfort by thickening blood, expanding muscles, and dehydration.
And while Glieber believes that the only way to really combat the impact of humidity on your joint is to move to a drier climate – aside from some palliative measures like swimming or biking and getting your daily recommended amount of water, we would like to recommend some other ways to promote healthy joint support.
…Without having to pack it all up and move out of state.
Did you know that there are things you can change in your diet to support healthy joints?
Here are some of our favorites…
4 Dietary Changes to Support Healthy Joints
Alleviating joint discomfort can be as easy (and delicious) as adding a few things to your diet or eating the following things more often.
- Fish and Flexibility - Doctors recommend eating 3 to 4 ounces of fish like tuna, salmon, or herring two times a week. This is especially useful for people living in warm, humid climates where there is a big fishing industry. This is because fish are high in Omega-3 fatty acids that are known to fight inflammation.
- Dipping Into Dairy – Dairy is rich in vitamin D, which helps your bones absorb calcium. The best place to get more vitamin D whole milk, but you can also get it from cheese and yogurt. You can also get it by packing your diet full of green leafy vegetables.
- Sit Up With Citrus – Citrus fruits, which thankfully grow in humid regions, are rich in vitamin C which is widely known to help maintain healthy joints. So eat some oranges, have a grapefruit with breakfast, and squeeze some lemon or lime juice into your water.
- Tune Up With Turmeric – The Arthritis Foundation has recognized that this herb is “effective at preventing joint inflammation.” This is a wonderful herb that is often used in Indian cuisine, but it is really great when mixed with butter and melted over vegetables. You can find it in the spice aisle of any grocery store.
It helps support healthy joints with its blend of natural ingredients like turmeric and ginger. Click here to find out more!
