Electric Vehicles in Germany Emit More Carbon Dioxide Than Diesel Vehicles

This is an argument I have studied and discussed with others - having worked in Calif at various times! It comes down to the total cost which is hidden and confused with the Electric car calculations - looking at total lifetime costs! - A different study from the Union of Concerned Scientists found that depending on the type of plug-in being built, manufacturing a battery-powered car generates 15 percent to 68 percent more carbon dioxide emissions than a conventional gasoline-powered car because of the energy intensity of manufacturing batteries.

Conclusion

The above studies indicate that the terminology “zero-emission” is a misnomer when referring to electric vehicles. Also, lawmakers should be cautious about subsidizing electric vehicles when their electricity is generated mainly by fossil fuels because they are not lowering the carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles by doing so. The old saying that “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” may well apply to many of the gimmicks and workarounds advocated by whatever group is popular with a political and media elite at any given time. Germany’s lessons should be a case study for political leaders everywhere.

Yes, some thirty years ago, had this conversation -a Local Calif guy was bragging on how fuel-efficient his new electric car was!
* To which as an electrical engineer working in {UPS} uninterruptible power supply systems - I understood the full impact! I explained that yes, while his electric battery-powered car was non-emission gases {quise} free sitting in his driveway; somewhere there was a huge Coal power plant belching tons of gases to allow him to charge his car! {Calif had just shut down the local Nuke Power plant El Diablo on the South coast! 

** BTW; before working with UPS - I used to work on Nuke Power Plants!  But big money is driving this bus so don't get in the way or they will run you over! But who cares?


Another thing Batteries {Which I have worked with for over 20 years} and info from one of my sons who is a Fireman - here are some more facts:

 Batteries are dangerous : 

1) due to the corrosive materials used in them.

2) They are dangerous electrically due both to the voltages plus their heavyweights which is over 700 Lbs per cubic foot! - while water is approx 62 Lbs.

 3) More important is their fire danger { I have seen the result of 2 battery string fires over hot very fast plus they are difficult to put out or control - One at Univ of Miami and The IRS in Atl both were BAD}. 

4) The electrical cars pose another danger for fire and rescue workers when there has been a wreck due to having to cut people out of the car because of the heavy high voltage electrical cables in the car. 

5) In fact, just saw an article on how especially dangerous they are requiring hours and tonnes of water to cool down the fire! 

6) The cost of replacing all the Batteries in an electrical car is in the thousands of dollars. - I just thought you might like to know! So when you get your annual checkup sometime remember the battery cost replacement several thousand dollars! 

True life is based upon the real facts  - not the desirable elements which are often put out!
