One of the secrets to long life is explained in the following story: Read on!
From a friend:
This is great--well worth the read! Enjoy!
This is a wonderful piece by Michael Gartner, editor of newspapers large and small and president of NBC News. In 1997, he won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing. It is well worth reading, and a few good chuckles are guaranteed.
My father never drove a car. Well, that's not quite right. I should say I never saw him drive a car. He quit driving in 1927, when he was 25 years old, and the last car he drove was a 1926 Whippet. "In those days," he told me when he was in his 90s, "to drive a car you had to do things with your hands, and do things with your feet, and look every which way, and I decided you could walk through life and enjoy it or drive through life and miss it." At which point my mother, a sometimes salty Irishwoman, chimed in:"Oh, bull----!" she said. "He hit a horse." "Well," my father said, "there was that, too." So my brother and I grew up in a household without a car.
The neighbors all had cars -- the Kollingses next door had a green 1941Dodge, the VanLaninghams across the street a gray 1936 Plymouth, the Hopsons two doors down a black 1941 Ford -- but we had none. My father, a newspaperman in Des Moines, would take the streetcar to work and, often as not, walk the 3 miles home. If he took the streetcar home, my mother and brother and I would walk the three blocks to the streetcar stop, meet him and walk home together.
My brother, David, was born in 1935, and I was born in 1938, and sometimes, at dinner, we'd ask how come all the neighbors had cars but we had none. "No one in the family drives," my mother would explain, and that was that. But, sometimes, my father would say, "But as soon as one of you boys turns 16, we'll get one."
It was as if he wasn't sure which one of us would turn 16 first. But, sure enough , my brother turned 16 before I did, so in 1951 my parents bought a used 1950 Chevrolet from a friend who ran the parts department at a Chevy dealership downtown. It was a four-door, white model, stick shift, fender skirts, loaded with everything, and, since my parents didn't drive, it more or less became my brother's car.
Having a car but not being able to drive didn't bother my father, but it didn't make sense to my mother. So in 1952, when she was 43 years old, she asked a friend to teach her to drive. She learned in a nearby cemetery, the place where I learned to drive the following year and where, a generation later, I took my two sons to practice driving. The cemetery probably was my father's idea. "Who can your mother hurt in the cemetery?" I remember him saying more than once.
For the next 45 years or so, until she was 90, my mother was the driver in the family. Neither she nor my father had any sense of direction, but he loaded up on maps -- though they seldom left the city limits -- and appointed himself navigator. It seemed to work.
Still, they both continued to walk a lot. My mother was a devout Catholic, and my father an equally devout agnostic, an arrangement that didn't seem to bother either of them through their 75 years of marriage. (Yes, 75 years, and they were deeply in love the entire time.) He retired when he was 70, and nearly every morning for the next 20 years or so, he would walk with her the mile to St. Augustin's Church.
She would walk down and sit in the front pew, and he would wait in the back until he saw which of the parish's two priests was on duty that morning. If it was the pastor, my father then would go out and take a 2-mile walk, meeting my mother at the end of the service and walking her home. If it was the assistant pastor, he'd take just a 1-mile walk and then head back to the church. He called the priests "Father Fast" and "Father Slow."
After he retired, my father almost always accompanied my mother whenever she drove anywhere, even if he had no reason to go along. If she were going to the beauty parlor, he'd sit in the car and read, or go take a stroll or, if it was summer, have her keep the engine running so he could listen to the Cubs game on the radio. In the evening, then, when I'd stop by, he'd explain: "The Cubs lost again. The millionaire on second base made a bad throw to the millionaire on first base, so the multimillionaire on third base scored." If she were going to the grocery store, he would go along to carry the bags out -- and to make sure she loaded up on ice cream. As I said, he was always the navigator, and once, when he was 95 and she was 88 and still driving, he said to me, "Do you want to know the secret of a long life?" "I guess so," I said, knowing it probably would be something bizarre. "No left turns," he said. "What?" I asked. "No left turns," he repeated. "Several years ago, your mother and I read an article that said most accidents that old people are in happen when they turn left in front of oncoming traffic. As you get older, your eyesight worsens, and you can lose your depth perception, it said. So your mother and I decided never again to make a left turn." "What?" I said again. "No left turns," he said. "Think about it. Three rights are the same as a left, and that's a lot safer. So we always make three rights." "You're kidding!" I said, and I turned to my mother for support "No," she said, "your father is right. We make three rights. Itworks." But then she added: "Except when your father loses count." I was driving at the time, and I almost drove off the road as Istarted laughing. "Loses count?" I asked. "Yes," my father admitted, "that sometimes happens. But it's not a problem. You just make seven rights, and you're okay again." I couldn't resist. "Do you ever go for 11?" I asked. "No," he said " If we miss it at seven, we just come home and call it a bad day. Besides, nothing in life is so important it can't be put off another day or another week."
My mother was never in an accident, but one evening she handed me her car keys and said she had decided to quit driving. That was in 1999, when she was 90. She lived four more years, until 2003. My father died the next year, at 102. They both died in the bungalow they had moved into in 1937 and bought a few years later for $3,000. (Sixty years later, my brother and I paid $8,000 to have a shower put in the tiny bathroom -- the house had never had one. My father would have died then and there if he knew the shower cost nearly three times what he paid for the house.)
He continued to walk daily -- he had me get him a treadmill when he was 101 because he was afraid he'd fall on the icy sidewalks but wanted to keep exercising -- and he was of sound mind and sound body until the moment he died. One September afternoon in 2004, he and my son went with me when I had to give a talk in a neighboring town, and it was clear to all three of us that he was wearing out, though we had the usual wide-ranging conversation about politics and newspapers and things in the news.
A few weeks earlier, he had told my son, "You know, Mike, the first hundred years are a lot easier than the second hundred." At one point in our drive that Saturday, he said, "You know, I'm probably not going to live much longer." "You're probably right," I said. "Why would you say that?" He countered, somewhat irritated. "Because you're 102 years old," I said. "Yes," he said, "you're right." He stayed in bed all the next day. That night, I suggested to my son and daughter that we sit up with him through the night. He appreciated it, he said, though at one point, apparently seeing us look gloomy, he said: "I would like to make an announcement. No one in this room is dead yet" An hour or so later, he spoke his last words: "I want you to know," he said, clearly and lucidly, "that I am in no pain. I am very comfortable. And I have had as happy a life as anyone on this earth could ever have." A short time later, he died.
I miss him a lot, and I think about him a lot. I've wondered now and then how it was that my family and I were so lucky that he lived so long. I can't figure out if it was because he walked through life, Or because he quit taking left turns. "
Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about the one's who don't. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would most likely be worth it."
My life has been to seek the Absolute Truth of God; to help others find the real purpose of their lives... Attempt to make this or where ever I am; better for my having been there! Amen!

I find it preposterous that people still chase a Biggie Man; and avoid the Real Truth in life...

Interesting stuff the News Media puts out... Maybe you will want to rethink the so called " Global Warming Stuff " ; remember money talks and people chase after it with reckless abandonment!! HUH!!
I Was Right About the Bird Flu Hoax
Last year, the number of human cases of avian flu dropped rather than rose for the first time -- from a paltry 115 in 2006 to an even more insignificant 86 in 2007. Frightening headlines warning of a pandemic that could kill 150 million people have all but vanished.
Although some “experts” still argue that preparations against bird flu must continue, many are finally beginning to realize what I said all along -- that this over hyped, oversold “pandemic” was never a threat in the first place. According to Dr. Paul A. Offit, a vaccine specialist at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia, “H5 viruses have been around for 100 years and never caused a pandemic and probably never will.”
Still, according to this New York Times article, scientists and governments are congratulating themselves for averting a threat that never was by stockpiling worthless vaccines, pointlessly culling hundreds of millions of birds, and pouring money into preparation efforts. I can only imagine that the flu vaccine manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank.

A Knights Creed « on: December 12, 2007, 12:00:58 »
A knight was to be a Champion of all in need: Women, Children, plus most of all to the helpless and the poor...
Thus they were to live by this simple yet powerful creed;
A Knight should:
Protect the innocent, the defenseless and the helpless poor.
Learn to Trust in God's Will for all things !
Always be truthful in all things; even if it means your death to do so!
It is so sad that we can not even try to live by this today!!
If we did live by these: Powerful and meaningful words!!
Just maybe the lives of those around us would be improved!!

Wake up !! Cheap labor cost... Wither it is here in the USA or from China or where ever, we will pay for it!! HUH!!Date: 11/16/2007 08:45:57 ... blog viewed 111,234 times
Some things are eating away our views and our life style... One is the belief that cheap labor is good; either here in the USA or from places like China...
This is from an e-mail...
If even half of this is true, it’s a travesty!
Tomatoes and Cheap Labor or CHEAP TOMATOES?
This should make everyone think, be you Democrat, Republican or Independent.
From a California school teacher - - -
"As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of: I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels. Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens , Huntington Park , etc., where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools. Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I'm not talking a glass of milk and roll -- but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten. ( OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK )
I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones. The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)
I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my budget was already substantial.
I ended up buying new computers for the computer learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)
I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the country less then 3 months who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them "Putas" whores and throwing things that the teachers were in tears.
Free medical, free education, free food, day careetc., etc, etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements ?
To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs. Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases etc., etc, etc.
For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes.
We need to wake up. The guest worker program will be a disaster because we won't have the guts to enforce it. Does anyone in their right mind really think they will voluntarily leave and return?
It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate , and an American culture that has become so weak and worried about "politically correctness" that we don't have the will to do anything about it. If this makes your blood boil, as it did mine, forward this to everyone you know. CHEAP LABOR?
Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage. Consumers don't want expensive produce. Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs. But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie.
There is no such thing as "cheap labor."
Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or 6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return , he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free. He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.He qualifies for food stamps. He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care. His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school. He requires bilingual teachers and books. He qualifies for relief from high energy bills. If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SIS. Once qualified for SIS they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at (our) taxpayer's expense. He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance. Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material. He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after paying their bills and his.
The American taxpayers also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean-up. Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT! Wake up people!
THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS WE SHOULD BE ADDRESSING TO THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR EITHER PARTY. 'AND WHEN THEY LIE TO US AND DON'T DO AS THEY SAY, WE SHOULD REPLACE THEM AT ONCE!'

Granddaddy Where are you?
Granddaddy where are you??
Families are our connection to our past and future...
Here is some personal history... This is a picture of my Mother's Father's (family) back about 1894... He is the boy on the far left!!
I learned many important things from this man... Courage, honesty, respect, and to always be true to your beliefs... I was 24 the year he passed on into Eternity...
I had spent much time in my formative years at his house in South Georgia... He took me first time hunting, (Quail) and fishing on the three rivers and many farm ponds... { He always carried a pistol in his tackle box; for the Water Moccasins & Copper Heads that hang out around the water, down in South Georgia...}
I learned about basic automobile while at his house... He had a Model "A" Ford coupe; and I learned to change spark plugs and such... He also had an Oldsmobile one of the first cars with an automatic transmission. He drove the model "A" most of the time mainly because he liked to shift... Well my brother and I sat out in the Oldsmobile and played driving... Well we decided that running the heater fan motor which had several speeds; allowed some simulates of driving... Well we forgot and left it on one day and of course it ran the battery down and Granddaddy was not happy... As he would sit out in the car, Sunday afternoons, listen to the radio and wave at folks going by!
He ran a Radio/ TV repair shop and I guess there is where I picked up my interest in electroics... He did not speak much but when he did you would really listen... He never attended any church that I knew of, but he lived the gospel... We said prayers and blessing at meals... He did not tolerate any cursing or nasty/crude actions... He would council us on the correct ways to live life... No cheating or stealing... He was always respected by all those, I saw him meet...
I learned about trust and respect at his house... I learned about firearms from him... Shot my first; when I was about 12... We, my brother and I, knew where he kept the guns; but we also knew there were some things that, you did not play with!! He had a hard hand and would on occasion put it to our back sides... This disproves the modern idea that a gun in a household; would automatically mean someone would be shot with it... What we need is some old fashion discipline and personable responsibility to be taught in the home!! A good butt warming goes a long way toward reinforcing that way of thinking also...
He was a gentle man who would even allow us to occasionally go up to the store to get some "Belly Wash" as he called soft drinks... He was a man who layed out a straight and narrow course for me to walk which has guided me well through life!! I am thankful to have had him in my life... He was a man short on words, but big on action... Especially in the general absence of my father; Granddaddy you were my inspiration and guide... THANK YOU!!
We will talk more about this fine Southern Gentleman, in another blog...

Shame...
This is one of our guide lines in life...
Shame or not... From (Ya' think?? HUH...) Blog Date: 7/23/2007 13:53:02 blog viewed 97,314 times since posted on line
what ever happened to "shame' or " Modesty" or the notion that we have a conscience which should act as a guardrail on our pathway of life??
To every Man, woman, or child...
What ever happened to our Conscience which is suppose to act as a kind of guard rail on the Pathway of life?? Who made " Modesty " a dirty word and why does it seem that no one feels shame any more?? These are just a few things we will look at today...
First; Shame is a good emotional reaction to things which are not in our best interest... HUH!! Imagine that folks; things that may not be our best interest... What a novel thought in this world of do what you want...
Yes, I know that the entertainment industry in recent years has shown every conceivable thing they can come up with; with out shame... They have lead the way to the thought; that there is no real shame... While the idea may be popular and flaunted in todays society; believe me this idea of ' No Shame" will come back to haunt us...
Shame used to keep our base, vial, personalities in check; so we could behave as civil humans; rather than with brute animals responces... Some would ask why we need to shame?? Well once you open the door to crass and crude actions, with out any remorse or consequences, you have set the trap for total failure... Shame is a stop gap or limiting factor so that we do not get beyond our real desires...
While desire is a GOD ordained emotion; it is to be with concern and understanding of the consequences in life... The old saying " There is no free lunch " would stand out as an example of not just jumping into bed with what ever comes down the pike... So desire is when controlled and directed a very worth wile thing in our life...
Modesty is another key part of this defense mechanism if you please... It allows one to bow out or learn to keep oneself in check; under many crude occasions... The built in mode was to have one excuse or remove oneself from such actives that could prove both dangerous or plain gross... It is these defense mechanisms if you please; that help us keep our person under control and responsive to our real wishes and desires... The idea is to learn to control and respond to our lust in life...
The main key is our conscience; the guardian which is the real keeper of our soul... Our conscience should direct us; so we can function in life and be the best person... If we can not learn to live with our life under control then we will never ever be able to do anything of value either for ourself or anyone else!! Our conscience is the key; to our controlling ourself and following our core values...
Now if you do not understand what core values are or how they operate; then we will need to cover this more later... This whole item of conscience is based on the primes that you are an intelligent spirit; who should be seeking the best pathway of life... Conscience is the reminder or presence of one's core values and built in principles where they help to reinforce ore existance... With out a conscience you are no more than a mad dog; or rabid skunk lost in the world of the sane and living... This is the curtain between evil and good; or sane and forever lost in mind and spirit... Without conscience one becomes a person with a reprobate mind!!
Very sad but so preventable; with a good conscience and strong mind; we can be the person GOD meant for us to be... Why do we even want to try to cross this mind field of grief and pain?? The decision is yours!!
I will write more on the conscience and soul for those who do not understand the connection... See Ya, Kermit
Life is about Choices!!
Friday, May 25, 2007 15:02
Life is about choice... DUH!! We all come here with one purpose; that is to learn how to become our self and then how to help others... If we can succeed in this task we have come full circle...It seems that many people tend to never really know in their heart of hearts who they really are... Such a shame; because our whole existence depends on who we become... This is beyond all physical or environments elements... It is the spiritual reality that we come to know who we really were meant to be...Therefore our very being is to focal point of our existence... It is from here that we develop into our Eternal selves... We seek to reconnect with GOD!! BTW: We all have this inward desire; just most do not know how to access it!!Maybe this sounds very odd to some but this element of our existence is hard wired into our soul... We want to be loved and connect with others who will support and cherish us... We each want eternal companionship... Stop by my web site as we explore this in more detail... @ http://www.simplytruth.com/... We must come to the realization of our existence; which is much more than just a few short years on this Green earth... See Ya... Kermit

Truth prevails; popularity passes...
True Words(Absolute Truth Some Wisdom and Intercourse....)Date: 5/16/2007 07:14:08... blog viewed 37,746 times since posted on lineLife is about recognizing the truth; then learning to live with the results... Learn to live the truth!!With the election coming up in the United States and all the so called political correctness crap; here are a few words of wisdom...Back in May 1948 @ 18:00 hours Washington time; when the State of Israel was declared a nation once more... Then @ 18:11 President Harry S. Truman signed a document recognizing Israel state's " de facto authority " and scrawled the word " Approved " ... By recognizing Israel, Truman knew he would be forever damned by people who did not want the Jews to have their own state... or who did not want it in Palestine! But as Truman always told himself, the ultimate test of any presidential decision was " not whether it's popular at the time, but whether it's right.... If it's right, make it, and let the popular take care of itself..." This was a world shaking decision and a very critical moment the world's history! It was how we should make important decisions in our life... Or in my words: " Do what is right and let the rest fall where it will" a Kermit-ism
2007Does it not seem that we are at a similar point in history; with some of the recent political goings on in Washington??Just maybe President Bush has got it right?? There is something here for you to think about and maybe even change the way you live the rest of your life?? The TRUTH is... Popularity passes!! So it is not about what how we feel about something; it is about what the true situation really is that counts!! Think long and hard about what the truth is in a given situation; dear friend!!Just maybe to cut and run out on our commitment; will bring a whole lot a grief to our door... See Ya... Kermit

Strawberry Meth is here!!
This is a MUST READ!!... "Dope is no Joke!!" a Kermit_ism 2007
Sorry to say but there are people out there who do not care if they hurt or destroy you or your family and friends... Yes besides the Islamic extreamist, see what they have planned for us now!!... Simply Truth... DUH!!
This is an email sent to concerned citizens in Georgia... Kermit

From what I can see, this "Strawberry Meth" is real and has been seen mostly in the Midwest area. It could be coming this way and it is probably something you want to talk to your kids or grandkids about. I have not seen or heard about it being found in Georgia yet, but it is probably a matter of time.
