I.Jn. 16:13 – One of the ministries of the Holy Spirit is to show us things to come – reveal our future to us.
A. He will show us things positive regarding our future
1)Jer. 29:11-13 – “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
2)Discovering the future God has for us does not come automatically.
3)It requires us participating in the process by seeking God with all our hearts and laying aside our own plans/dreams/ways.
4)The will of God for our lives is discovered not decided.
5)His thoughts are above our own and only as we lay aside our own plans can we begin to discern His plans!
6)Example of how I began to discover His plan for me when I was filled with the Spirit and began to seek Him with all my heart.
7)Janice: “I am a Pastor’s wife.” Lk. 1:2, 17 – “I have called you to be a minister of the Word, making ready a people prepared for the Lord. “I have called you to equip the saints.” Peggy Lee song, “Is that all there is?”
B.He will also show us things to come negative regarding the enemy’s plans for our lives.
1)Acts 27:10 – Paul: “Men, I perceive that this voyage will end with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and ship, but also our lives.”
2)The centurion, helmsman, and owner of the ship did not listen to this warning, but the Holy Spirit was showing them the plans of the enemy to destroy the ship and the lives of the passengers.
3)Acts 21:10-14 – Agabus was shown by the Holy Spirit the evil plans of the enemy to use the Jews at Jerusalem to deliver Paul to the Gentiles, to harm him and imprison him.
4)Though the Holy Spirit revealed this to him, Paul still had to follow his own heart regarding this.
C.The present-day ministry of the Holy Spirit will reveal negative plans of the enemy to us – 2
1)Not for the purpose of us accepting that as inevitable or resign ourselves to submit to the devil’s plans
2)But so we can avert it, avoid it or stop it!
3)Example: Michael and the red pick-up truck
4)9/11, Tsunami in Sri Lanka
5)Delayed trip to boys’ school one morning
6)Scientific study of those who survived tragic accidents: 95% have told me that they sensed something wasn’t right and would have been better to wait before going.
7)Prov. 22:3 – “A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself.”
8)This includes mass shootings
II.How to walk in the protection promised in Psalm 91
A.v. 1 – Dwelling in the secret place of the Most High; Abiding under the shadow of the Almighty
B.v. 9 – Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place.
1)He is speaking of our intimacy with the Lord; our relationship with the Holy Spirit
2)II Cor. 13:14 – “...the communion (fellowship) of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
3)This is the key to the supernatural protection promised in Ps. 91
4)v. 9-11 – “Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place: no evil shall befall you nor shall any plague come near your dwelling, for He shall give His angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways.”
5)v. 16 – “with long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.”
C.Praying in the spirit/in other tongues helps us draw up and access the mind of Christ in these times we are sensing something is wrong and the enemy is setting some type of evil trap for us.
